“If money were the only criterion by which a child’s welfare can be gauged, then a baby bought for as much RM40, 000 on the black market would seem set for life. For money rich but child-poor couples, it is a small price to pay to introduce a small life into their home. The cot is gilded, the blanket monogrammed, the college fund filled to the brim. All that’s wanting is a bun in the oven. And where there is a baby-for-sale racket, money can indeed buy happiness. And after all, why not?” (NST, March 3, 2013)
•    Provide at least two (2) premises or two (2) counter agreements for the statements based    on your agreement

This particular topic seems to be a serious issue nowadays as money rich people tend to buy a baby through black market. Whatever the excuse is, people should not involve in black market. From my point of view, I could really say that I am totally disagreeing with the above statements due to my firm reasons. For this particular topic, I am going to discuss my disagreement for the money rich who got involve in buying children from the black market.
First and foremost, there are another ways or alternative for a those couples to have a baby. Money can’t buy anything that we want. Having money doesn’t mean you can do everything that you want. People who are money rich can’t use their wealth to buy baby from the black market. From my point of view, why they need to buy the babies from the black market and throw a numerous amount of money as they can get it from a child adoption ?

Generally, how do we indicate the happiness itself? Do you think wealth can replace the happiness between the babies and his family? Looking at this as a whole, it has been considered that money is not a medium that can assure the availability of happiness, by buying the baby. As for me, I think money jcan’t buy the happiness but if we have money, the happiness will come to us.

In conclusion, I remained disagree with the statements above that saying money can buy happiness. It’s all about the greed. Money and greed tend to blind other people in order to have something for their own benefits.

You have almost completed this semester, so, how do you view Critical Literacy now? If you have any comments and suggestions, please do so as it helps for the betterment of the course as a whole.

Right now we are in the end of this semester as some of the assignment had been submitted. In my own view, I can simply articulate that Critical Literacy is not an easy subject but somehow I learnt lots of lesson by taking this subject. Few weeks ago, I had submitted the first assignment. It was fascinating as I managed to complete the task given. The long period of time given by the lecturer to finish that particular assignment as she knew that students can finish the works if they were doing last minute job. I do agree with my lecturer. From my observation, some of my friends are unable to submit on time. So I take some lesson from it that we can’t do the last minute job to complete the task given as it requires us to think critically in order to review on each topic of the essay. Assignment 2 is going to be harder as we need to review on 2 long essays. That’s why my respective lecturer delaying the date of submitting the essay. I think it will be a tough task. I am very sure that we are having enough time in order to gloss the task. Next we are going to face the VIVA presentation that will be hold on week 15. Same goes to the week that we are supposed to submit the second assignment. One of my seniors once said VIVA presentation made me pass this subject. He said you have to play a vital role regarding to this task as it requires lots of mark which are 25%. I think it will be a challenging task as it related with the first assignment. We are going to answer questioned by the panellist. So we need to understand well regarding to the topic that we have done on the first assignment. I think it is a good task as it will boost the students’ confidence and also make the students able to answer the question. It tend to be one of a good way to make students more confidence presenting in front of people. To be conclude, I view this subject as a challenging and fun subject. It was a hard subject but if we do follow the flow, we will be able to pass this subject.

The body is the greatest possession, the mind is the greatest treasure and the spirit is the greatest companion.
·         How do you view above statement

Those three things are the vital part of everyone’s life. Body is the greatest possession. As for me, body seems to be the greatest one as it was given to us and we need to take a good care of it. Taking care of it means that we need to take a serious care of our body with covers the whole part of the body. Physical appearances is something that related to the statement above. So I think we should take a good care of it as people nowadays will judge people based on their physical appearances. This is what we called first impression. Then, next statement is the mind is the greatest treasure. Yes I am really agree with the statement. As for me we should take a good care and use our mind doing the right things. We were given the mind and now it’s depend on us on how we use it. Whether it is for a good thing or bad things. Every day, we do use our mind to think so it’s a betterment for a person to take a good care on the brain and use it for a good purpose. Don’t wrong doing it. Every single thing that we want to do we will use it to think and also in resolving some problems. The last sentence is spirit is the greatest companion. From my point of view, I think yes that spirit is the greatest of companion. We need spirit in order or whenever we are facing problems, taking part in a competition and so on. Spirit do play a vital role in our own life as it makes us stronger whenever we are in a weak condition or having problems. Without spirit, I think lots of people will failed in every single thing that they are having.

Stereotyping is exaggerated generalizations associated with a categorizing system, they go beyond the facts at hand and make claims that usually have no valid basis. However, it is also something that most people find difficult to avoid from doing. What do you think?

Stereotyping is occurring when we offer a hasty generalization about a group based on a judgement about an individual from that group. At first, people who are stereotyping will categorize other people into groups based on a variety of criteria. Age, race, occupation and physical abilities are some of the criteria that could be judging bare some of the criteria that could be judging by the stereotype people. Basically, people will judge based on what they see. When they observe people from other group, they exaggerate or overestimate those people. In Malaysia there are lots of judgemental people we could see. Nowadays, we could see people in our own country tend to be a stereotype person as they keep judging or being judge by other. For instance, Malay is a race that always being falsified regarding to the social illness as some of them were involving on the cases. Child abuse, drug addict, and illegal racing are some of the social illness that Malay people seems to involve in. Somehow not all of them were involving in those particular cases. That is what we called stereotyping. Another example is people who are doing business well are Chinese. Yes I do agree that in Malaysia there are lots of Chinese people are really good in doing business. But somehow not all of them are doing well in their business. So, stereotype sometimes can be good or bad and it depends on how people view on it. It is a process on how we view people or people view us.

You heard comments and maybe grievances from your seniors about Critical Literacy but what is/are your expectation (s) or hope for this subject as you are just started.

Yes I do heard several comments and grievances from the seniors that spoken about this subject. Some of them said it was an easy subject and lots of them said it was a hard subject. I were speechless on that time so I said to myself just wait and see what will happen next sem. For sure I was very afraid to face this subject but somehow I think that whenever hard it is I had to face it. Also, I am very pleased to meet the lecturers as they said the lecturers that taught Critical Literacy were hardworking in order to make all of their students pass this subject. As I entered the first class, my respective lecturer, Madam Zariati started to brief about the whole thing about this subject. To be honest, I were afraid for the first and second assignment as it required us to make some review and think critically. We were given 3 short essays and we need to come out with some ideas regarding to the topic based on the Rule of 10. Same goes to the second assignment but in the second one we are supposed to read the two long essays. I think it will be hard for me as both of the assignments we need to read and think critically regarding to the topic. I do love the last minute job but my lecturer once said don’t do this assignment last minute, if not you are going to meet me again next semester. Her words always make me think twice if I supposed to do the last minute job. Next is about the VIVA presentation which is related to the first assignment. So we need to do well the first assignment as in the end of this semester we are going to do another task that is related to the first assignment. If we do not perform well in the first assignment, I am very sure it will be hard for us to manage the task. There will be panellist that are going to ask questions during the presentation. So I do hope that I will manage to accomplish this subject and manage to finish all of the task given on time.
